The Differences That Matter

Cost: a license fee or none

Odoo's price scales with users: at 10 users the Standard plan is $1,074 a year and the Custom plan $1,968. ERPNext has no license at all, so the software cost stays flat as you add people, and you pay only for hosting. For most projects the bigger cost is implementation, which is similar for both.

Out of the box, or open to change

Odoo gives you more finished apps that look and work alike, so a small team can switch on what it needs. ERPNext is lean and fully open: every form and workflow can be changed, but you will want someone technical to shape it and look after upgrades.

Manufacturing

Both handle bills of materials, work orders and costing. Odoo adds a master production schedule, a product lifecycle app, quality checks and a shop floor app for tablets. ERPNext covers job cards, production plans and subcontracting, and suits simpler lines well.

Hosting and control

Odoo's Standard plan runs only on Odoo Online; the Custom plan unlocks Odoo.sh or your own servers. ERPNext runs on Frappe Cloud or any server you choose, which matters if data must stay in your country or on your hardware.

The software is: ERPNext is open source under GPLv3, with no license fee. You still pay for hosting, from $5 a month on a Frappe Cloud shared site or $40 for a dedicated server, and for implementation help if you need it.

Is Odoo cheaper than ERPNext?
